The Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism’s House of Artisans participates in the 5th edition of the Révélations International Biennial of Crafts and Creation 2022, taking place at the Temporary Grand Palais in Paris, France. With a group of established artists and designers showcasing contemporary art pieces inspired by the nation’s natural surroundings and its raw materials, in line with the Emirate’s strategy to preserve the cultural heritage and support the Culture and Creative industries sector.

An innovative cultural experience celebrating the rich intangible heritage of the UAE. Set within Al Hosn site, House of Artisans will showcase the history of traditional Emirati crafts through an inventive exhibition, and provide a platform foEmirati artisans to practice and share their skills with future generations, as well as offer an annual programme of educational workshops and events, including Bait Al Gahwa.

Our latest exhibition, 'Weaving Cultures, from Mexico to the UAE,' explores the dialogue between Emirati crafts and Mexican folk art, highlighting the similarities, differences, and shared threads between the two cultures through the lens of crafted and artistic creations. The exhibition, organized in collaboration with the House of Artisans and the Fomento Cultural Citibanamex, A.C, is on display at the House of Artisans from 11 March until 25 August.

Sxill in a Box: Al Hosn Giveaway

A collaboration between Sxilllab and Qasr Al Hosn, Sxill in a Box: Al Hosn offers four skill-enhancing experiences, each wrapped up in a kit, inspired by the history and heritage of Abu Dhabi. The box looks at different aspects of our history and culture and delivers them to everyone – from weaving to pottery and beyond. Families or individuals can experience the artistry and tactile skills at their own pace in the comfort of their own homes. For the occasion of Eid Al Adha, the first themed box will be a Takkiya Embroidery Kit. This box teaches you the skill of embroidery on the classic Khaleeji takkiya. Takkiya, coming from the word itaki, means to lean on and recline and has long been a part of the Emirati culture.
